11th September 2013

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back! It’s wonderful to see all our children return safely and happily from their holidays. We have been joined by several new families so please do give them a warm welcome to Holy Trinity. We are all very excited to be starting a new year.

The beautiful new play equipment has been really well received by all the children – thank you PTA! We still have a new bicycle shelter and some replacement playhouses to be delivered. Inside the school we have reconfigured the IT suite, which now looks very smart.

Our parent information sessions begin next week. Please do come along to these to find out about the class routines and expectations and it’s your chance to ask any questions.  If you cannot attend, the information will be sent home.

From 16th – 20th most of Year 6 children are off to France for their residential; those children who have opted to stay here are having a very interesting week at school that mirrors the activities in France as closely as possible.

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––Aims for this year. We continue to strive for excellence in educational standards; this will include continuing to focus on developing the children’s skill in writing. We also want to develop the children’s self reliance and learning skills, often referred to by educationalists as “behaviours for learning”; if they can do these things the children will be very successful in making progress at school. We are referring to these as the 5 R’s, readiness, resourcefulness, resilience, responsibility and reflection. One of the ways that you can support your child will be to help them to become independent so please let your child come into the school building by themselves.  You will learn more about the 5R’s at the parent information sessions and through the school’s communications. If you are interested in further reading a great website is the Campaign for Learning, www.campaign-for-learning.org.uk

Dates. I hope that you received our calendar for the next three months. We will issue another three month calendar in December. The calendar will be on the school website.

Happy’s Circus –roll up, roll up, see you there on Saturday!

From Lucy Ashby – I’m running the Great North Run on Sunday to raise money for the Jon Egging Trust. This is an amazing charity that fundraises to support disadvantaged young people in secondary schools and help them to reach their potential and be the best they can be. They work directly with schools and groups of children and have had a fantastic impact. Jon is one of the Red Arrow pilots that died two years ago and his widow has set up this charity in his name. Something very close to my heart. Please sponsor me if you can! www.justgiving.com/Lucy-Ashby1

HAPPY’S CIRCUS!!! Sat 14th September from 12 noon @ Christ’s School

This wonderful animal-free circus is once again coming to town and will be at Christ’s School on Saturday 14th September @ 2pm. We still have some tickets left so please buy yours from the school office or from the PTA stalls at pick-up this week to ensure little bottoms are in the big top.

We’ve added an extra Happy Hour, so the doors open at 12 noon – we have food, drinks, face-painting, bouncy castles and crucially – the bar! This really is a fantastic family day out and was hugely enjoyed last time – don’t miss out!

Join the Circus…

We don’t need acrobats and trapeze artists, but we do need help on the day to run the stalls. If you can spare half-an-hour to give us a hand between 12 – 4pm you will be hugely appreciated and look 10 years younger*. We do need face-painters, chefs, bar staff – please sign up on the Doodle page: http://doodle.com/hdp9z9t4p84t5tf5

*Actual age difference may vary.

Cake Appeal – Bakers dust off your aprons – we need cakes by the baker’s dozen to sell at the circus. Please bring your goodies to the PTA hut on Friday 13th Sept – we won’t eat them all. Honest.

Thanks everyone – we’re looking forward to another fantastic year,
