Dear Parents and Carers 17 th March 2022
Year 3 at Hampton Court
Bike maintenance
There will be two free 90-minute workshops on bike maintenance being run at 5pm on Wednesday 23rd and
Wednesday 30th March in the school hall. Numbers will be limited as participants will be invited to bring their bikes
along. Could you please email Raphael.Younger@sustrans.org.uk if you are interested in attending.
The workshops will be run by Sustrans and are an introductory course that covers areas of bicycle repair and
maintenance that can be completed at home or when out riding, using just a few basic tools. The aim is to help each
rider get more from their bike. It is meant as a starting block for those unfamiliar with cycle repair to gain the
confidence to be able to tackle basic jobs, learn some new skills and pick up tips. Those attending will learn bike
terminology, troubleshooting, set-up and adjustment of a bicycle and how to care for the bicycle for optimal
performance and reliable cycling.
Big Wheel and Walk to School Competition
Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel is taking place 21 March – 1 April 2022. The event is a national one to inspire children and
families to take active journeys to school. On each day of the challenge, schools compete to see who can get the
highest percentage of children walking, using a wheelchair, scooting or cycling to school. Our school’s best five days
will determine our final position, but we can log journeys on all ten days if we wish. Ideally all children will be able to
join in and understand the health and wellbeing benefits of active travel.
Any Duplo?
If anyone has any old pieces of Duplo Lego this style we are after some for our music lessons. Please send it in to me
via your child's class or the school office. I'd be so grateful! Many thanks, Miss Ashby.
