Curriculum Overview

At Holy Trinity, we firmly believe that Physical Education, experienced in a safe and supportive environment, has a VITAL role to play in the physical, emotional, social, spiritual, moral and cultural development of the children in our care, as well as promoting a lifelong healthy life style and a sense of well-being.
Overall it is our fundamental aim to ensure all children become physically literate and develop their physical education and confidence to enable them to enjoy participating in physically demanding tasks and activities.  This confidence and development of their gross and fine motor skills, combined with a far ranging variety of sports and activities,  will give them the confidence and inspiration to continue participation and go on to lead a  healthy and active lifestyle for LIFE.
During the Foundation Stage the children may develop their skills through water or sand play, hall time or through musical movement and apparatus work.
At Key Stage 1 (KS1) children are taught gymnastics, games and dance. Each child is also individually assessed and their progression of skills monitored through the ‘BUPA Start to Move’ scheme.
Gymnastics, dance and games continue in Key Stage 2 (KS2) with the addition of swimming. Holy Trinity has separate KS1 and KS2 playgrounds plus an all-weather ‘3G AstroTurf’ pitch.
Active play is encouraged throughout the school with the provision of a climbing wall and challenge course (KS2), ‘play fort’ (KS2) and a Trim Trail (KS1). At Holy Trinity we also offer an expansive range of extra-curricular sports clubs ranging from table tennis and circus skills to tag rugby, netball and football.
During the course of their time at Holy Trinity the children will have the opportunity to compete in many of the organised competitive events within the Borough, e.g. girls’ and boys’ football matches, annual swimming gala, netball competitions, tag rugby matches, cross country, athletics and cricket tournaments. Participation in sport is celebrated annually in our end-of-year sports award assembly including the unveiling of the Holy Trinity girls’ and boys’ Sports Personality of the Year.
