Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to the Autumn Term and another school year. It was such a joy to welcome the children back on Monday. It
has also been great to hear about some of the things that you have all been up to over the summer break. We are so
proud of how welcoming Holy Trinity children are to any newcomers in their class. We have also welcomed a number
of new teachers this September.
New Staff
Claire Jobbins – Year 2 Bumblebees – Key Stage 1 Lead and English Lead
Sophie Brunt – Year 3 Swans – Lower Key Stage 2 Lead and Maths Lead
Hayley Merrett – Year 1 Ladybirds (Thursday & Friday)
Louisa Allard – Year 6 Falcons (Friday)
Please don’t expect them to know all of the answers to the questions you might have just yet but do feel free to ask
them anyway and they will do their best to find out.
Mrs Whiteside will be our Acting Deputy Head and we also welcome Rachael Macklearn as a seconded Deputy Head
from another Richmond School for two days per week.
In addition, many of you will know Susan Auton who is part of our Key Stage 1 team. Susan has said that she is happy
for me to share that over the summer she was diagnosed with cancer and is currently receiving treatment. She will
therefore not be in school for the foreseeable future – do keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
All staff returned last Thursday for two days of training – I am sure you will hear more about ReadWriteInc (Phonics
and Spelling schemes) and PATHS (a programme to develop self-control, emotional awareness and inter-personal
problem-solving skills) over the coming weeks and months. We also had our annual safeguarding and GDPR training.
Meet the Teacher Meetings
As usual we are holding Meet the Teacher meetings for each year group to provide an overview of the term and year
ahead and to give you an opportunity for you to ask any general questions. Year 3 held their meeting yesterday, year
4 will hold theirs today, year 5 tomorrow, year 2 and year 6 on Monday 12 th and year 1 on Tuesday 13th.
School Uniform
Smart appearance supports smart learning attitudes. We are so grateful that so many of you have sent your child back
to school at the start of this new year in smart uniform. Our uniform is detailed on our website ( Uniform at Holy Trinity).
but I would like to emphasis that this does include black shoes, not
trainers or boots, and that skirts should be just above the knee. All long hair should be tied back neatly with hair
accessories in school colours (no flowers, bridesmaid style headbands or JoJo-bows in bright colours). Many thanks for
supporting us with this.
Soft Start
From Monday, in years 1-6, we will be introducing a ‘Soft Start’ from 8.45am. Your child will be able to access the
classroom from 8.45 so they will have the opportunity to calmly organise themselves for the day and get ready for
their learning. They will have time to put their bags and coats away independently, organise their book bags,
homework or equipment and settle themselves to a quiet activity ready for registration at 8.55. Research has shown
that this approach has a positive impact on children’s readiness for learning at the start of the school day. Staff will be
available to support your child to move to class independently and answer any questions or queries you may have.
Smile Please.
The photographer will be in school to take individual and sibling photos on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th
September.
