Dear Parents and Carers 09/03/2023
World Maths Day and International Women’s Day
International Women's Day was celebrated in Guided Reading this week with lots of children completing
comprehensions about amazing women throughout history. KS1 focussed on Yoko Ono and Kamala Harris whilst KS2
looked at Amelia Earheart and Ada Lovelace – to name but a few inspirational women. Miss Brunt led an assembly on
Wednesday that focussed on many amazing women but notably Yusra Mardini and Katherine Johnson. What a great
opportunity this was to inspire young girls to have big dreams and defy current stereotypes and for their male
counterparts to be advocates for this great cause.
World Maths Day also took place on Wednesday. Children learnt about some incredible mathematicians including
Stephen Hawking. Across the school, all kinds of activities were completed from coding games to reasoning problems
and even becoming future Countdown stars. Let's hope the next Rachel Riley is walking amongst us at HT at the
moment!
STEM Week
STEM week will be launched by Mrs Lambert on Monday. The theme this year will be renewable energy. In order for
our children to carry out some of their investigations we would be grateful if you can bring any sturdy boxes or Pringle
(other makes are also suitable!) tubes into school, we would be most grateful.
Teacher Strike next Wednesday and Thursday
As previously advised, the National Education Union (NEU) have proposed further strike days on Wednesday and
Thursday next week.
Teachers are not compelled to inform their Headteacher of their plans to strike however I am very grateful to those
teachers at Holy Trinity who do intend to strike for doing so. As last time, they have already informed parents of their
class to ensure that you have had time to make childcare arrangements.
It is important to differentiate between the arrangements in place for school closure/opening during the Covid
pandemic and these proposed strike days. Unlike during the Covid lockdowns where classes were covered by other
teachers or staff if a teacher was absent, for the purpose of a strike day, there will be no arrangements put in place to
cover the class of a teacher who has chosen to strike, meaning there will be no school for that class on that given day
so as not to undermine the action they are taking. Schools locally will have varying numbers of NEU members so the
impact of the potential strike will differ from school to school.
I appreciate that this will cause disruption to some of our families but hope you will respect this situation in order to
try to improve the education system and school funding going forward.
