Nico Marais
Foundation Governor
I became a Foundation Governor in February 2025, following an invitation from one of the co-chairs who knows me through Holy Trinity Church, Richmond. I see this role as a great opportunity, privilege, and responsibility—to be of service to the school, its children, and staff.
I’ve been part of the Holy Trinity Richmond (HTR) community for nearly 11 years, having served in a full-time staff role for 8 of those. My family and I continue to attend and remain actively involved in various volunteer groups within the church.
Before moving to the UK, I was a secondary school teacher in South Africa for six years. After relocating, I worked as a church musician and worship pastor at two churches, the latter being HTR. In 2022, I transitioned into a new career in Data Science, Analytics, and Engineering. I now work in that field across both training and hands-on roles.
Although I’m still early in my journey as a school governor, I’m already encouraged by the strong support network and organisational excellence I’ve seen. I look forward to growing in this role and contributing meaningfully to the life of the school.
Primary school holds a special place in my heart—I remember it as a time of safe but stretching growth, shaped by dedicated teachers, sporting activities, and friendships that have lasted a lifetime. I hope to help provide the same kind of environment for today’s students.
