Friday 21st June 2024
Dear Parents and Carers ,
I would like to say a huge congratulations and thank you to our wonderful, dedicated and hugely resilient PTA (in the face of monsoon rain) for the incredible summer fair that they organised for our community on Saturday! The atmosphere was so warm and really reflected our wonderful community. Thank you to everyone that came along and for not being put off by the crazy British weather!
Over the last week and a half all our classes have been out to enjoy and experience meeting and listening to authors at the Barnes Literature Festival. Thank you so much to Miss Jobbins for organising this for everyone.
Trips, visits and events |
Summer Fair
A couple of priceless snaps:
- Our HT ‘Spa’ – the staff there never expected the relaxation beds to prove so popular!
- Tug-O-War – what a contest it turned out to be!
Thank you again for all your support, we are so very proud of our HT community and appreciate you all so very much.
Bumblebees and Dragonflies enjoy the sunshine at Forest School!
Year 2 had a wonderful morning full of forest-based activities on Monday. Their highlights were definitely making bread, called damper bread and cooking it over an open fire that they made!
Boys Football v The Russell
On Tuesday some of our Year 5 and 6 boys played an away game of football against The Russell. Both sides showed great skill and it was a close game! We were unlucky not to come away with a win, but a 0-0 draw was a fair result. The coach from The Russell said; ‘Please send my best wishes to your boys who behaved impeccably and represented your school with great pride.’ Well done boys, we are very proud of you!
Barnes Literature Festival
All our classes from Reception to Year 6 visited Barnes Literature Festival. Between us we heard from the following fabulous authors: Joseph Coelho & Fiona Lumbers, Sophy Henn, Nikesh Shukla, Jenny Pearson, Jennifer Killick and Sharna Jackson. It was such a wonderful experience, thank you to all the parents who accompanied us. Here is some lovely feedback from a few classes:
Year 1: ‘We loved joining in with Joseph Coelho’s stories, including Luna Loves Gardens which was all about growing seeds, something we have been doing in science.’
Year 4: ‘We had a great time seeing Jenny Pearson. Over the last few weeks, they have been reading her book ‘The Incredible Record Smashers’ and loved finding out about some of her other novels. Dominic was even invited onstage to compete against another school in an attempt to break the world record for the highest number of socks put on in 30 seconds. He managed 8 socks!’
Year 6: We went to the Barnes Children’s Literature Festival last Friday at Twickenham Stadium. We heard a talk by Sharna Jackson, who writes crime mysteries. Her latest book is ‘The Nine Night Mystery’. She is a fantastic and inspiring speaker, enthusing and engaging the audience, and the children really enjoyed the experience. I hope they found some inspiration for their own writing!
Year 3: We met the author, Nikesh Shukla, at the Barnes Festival. He introduced his book, ‘The Council of Good Friends’ where he had based his story characters on the friends he had made during lockdown. The children enjoyed a glimpse into his life and what inspired him. Year 3 then had a picnic lunch in a summery afternoon.
Message from Mrs Evans |
Well what a fabulous community event the summer fair was! Thank you so much to all of the families who came to support and gave up time to help. The weather presented some challenges but the community carried on and it ended up being a fantastic day. A huge thank you to Mr Bell for keeping spirits up with his summer soundtrack and to the other staff members who supported in various ways. Thank you to those of you who came to say hello. I was lucky enough to end my week with a trip to Southwark cathedral for the Year 6 leavers’ Service. It was lovely for me to be able to be part of this with the classes – the first of a number of celebration events to mark the end of their time with us at Holy Trinity. The classes performed a lovely song led by Mrs Barclay and were a real credit to the school in their behaviour. It was lovely to also see some previous Holy trinity pupils who now attend Christ’s Secondary School, who were at the service to give some thoughts on transition to the Year 6 pupils and to lead the group in the prayers. Summer seems to finally be making an appearance so I hope that many of you get a chance to get out and about to enjoy the warm weather over the weekend. See you back at school on Monday.

One more week until the Paris challenge…
What a lovely picture of Mr Thomson training on his bike! A single speed bike I should add – yes, that is the challenge he has set himself! Only one week until we’ll be cycling to Paris. Thank you so much to all those that have donated towards the charity ride. We are still fundraising until the trip for the school and Skylarks Charity. If you can give a little, it would help a lot!

Leavers
If there are any parents with children in Reception to Year 5 who are leaving the school at the end of term, please confirm this with Mrs Prendergast (lprendergast@htprimary.com) in the office as soon as possible alongside the name of the school your child will be joining and your new address if applicable. Richmond Admissions are asking for our projected numbers in each year group so that they are in a position to start making offers to other children. Many thanks.

Clean Sheen
Two of our children, Oliver and Riaan took part in “Clean Sheen” on Sunday morning. Clean Sheen is a volunteer led event that takes place once a year with local residents picking up litter in the local area and parks so that the environment is nicer for everyone. Oliver and Riaan helped keep Sheen Woods litter free by picking up littler in Zone 2. Other groups covered zone 1 and 3. They were very proud of their efforts and dedication to their task and we are too. As a result, Clean Sheen filled 39 sacks of rubbish in the morning. Oliver and Riaan received lots of compliments on their fantastic attitudes and efforts. Well done Oliver and Riaan! Perhaps you may like to get involved next year?
