Newsletter 18th October 2024

Friday 18th October 2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

We started the week with Dragonfly’s forest school session in the torrential rain and finished it with Year 4’s trip to Kew Gardens in the sunshine – what a strange week of weather!

The children had a fabulous time at the PTA Movie Night event last Friday, thank you so much to all the parents that organised this and enabled it to happen – the children loved it! This week they have launched their ‘Wonka style’ Wonderlicious search for the golden ticket; please see below for further details.

Trips, visits and events

Dragonflies are not beaten by the weather at Forest School!

Dragonfly Class had a fantastic (if very wet) time during their first forest school session! They participated in a variety of activities, including building zip lines, making different bird feeders, creating rope swings, and playing in the mud kitchen. They also enjoyed pond dipping and crafting God’s eyes, among many other fun tasks. It was wonderful to see everyone working collaboratively and creatively in the great outdoors!

A trip to the Wetlands centre for Year 2 – take 2!

Year 2 had a fantastic time at the London Wetlands Centre in Barnes. We took part in a variety of activities, including making habitats for different animals, going on bug and insect hunts and watching the otters being fed. We also made music in the outdoor music area, read nature books in the snug, and traversed a pond on a wobbly bridge. Exploring the wetlands and having fun in the adventure playground rounded off our busy, informative, and fun day! A huge thank you to our parent helpers, and well done to Year 2 for their super behaviour and enthusiasm for learning!

Message from Mrs Evans

This morning, we joined together as a school for a worship focusing once again on positive interactions. We considered improvements that have been made to our lives through developments in technology – easier communication, advances in film and TV, advances in transport and improvements to the way in which we learn. I then asked the children to consider their own relationship with technology and how much time they are spending using devices such as TVs, computers, tablets or phones. We considered what the downsides can be of using these too much: changes in mood, reduction in real-life interactions, negative impact on relationships as sometimes communication this way is misunderstood. We then considered some of the things that we could do instead of engaging with devices, such as sports, being outside, playing board games, arranging to meet friends and I challenged the children to put the devices down and choose something else over the weekend. We closed by considering how doing this can support us in developing positive relationship with those around us and reelected on both this Bible verse and quote by Maya Angelou:

Notices and requests

Sharing our Learning Monday 21st Oct   3:20/3:30pm

Each class will be open for you to come in at pick up time to share with the children some of the learning they have been doing over the last half term. We look forward to seeing you on Monday!

Dogs at drop off and pick up

Please could we encourage you not to leave your dogs unattended at the front or back gates as we have had a couple of less positive encounters. Thank you for your support and understanding with this.

Free School Meals – Academic year 2024-2025

All of our pupils from Reception to Year 6 are provided with universal free school meals for the academic year 2024-25. This is an initiative of the Mayor of London.

It is really important for parents on a low income, or those who are in receipt of certain benefits to apply for means-tested free school meals in order for the school to receive extra funding. With this extra funding, we are also able to provide other opportunities including extra-curricular clubs so it will further benefit you to see if you qualify.

 Eligibility outside the scheme

Normally, outside the timings of the initiative above, you can register your child for free school meals if you receive any of these benefits:

  • Income support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit – provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7400 as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods

Children who get paid these benefits directly (instead of through a parent or guardian) can also get free school meals.

Check your eligibility if you believe that your child(ren) are eligible for free school meals.

To apply for free school meals

If you need and advice with the application process, please contact Mrs Prendergast; lprendergast@htprimary.com

There are only 7 Golden Tickets up for grabs (one per year group), win a Golden Ticket and your child will win a chocolate and sweetie hamper, £15 worth of tokens to spend at the Christmas Fair, 10 minutes extra break time for your whole class and more.  You can buy the bars via classlist until Wednesday 23rd October, and can buy as many as you want!  The chocolate bars will be given out on Thursday 24th October and the winning hampers on Friday 25th October. All details are on classlist – https://app.classlist.com/parent/#/events/view/1188431015

Good luck in your quest to find one of the seven Golden Tickets!

I am messaging on behalf of your local Chestertons branch, here in East Sheen. We are helping the charity Calling London with their winter coat drive and would appreciate your support.

Every year, Calling London collects winter coats and jackets and then distributes them to over 30 charitable organisations – helping the homeless, victims of domestic abuse, those living in poverty, the elderly, refugees and children. We’ve been collecting coats on behalf of Calling London since 2013 and now more than ever they need our help.

Between 21st October – 23rd November all of the Chestertons London branches become donation points for the public to drop off their unwanted coats and jackets. We need winter coats and jackets in both adults and children’s sizes, every single donation makes a real difference to someone’s life.

Thank you for supporting our community and have a wonderful weekend,

Best wishes,  Miss Ashby.        Instagram: @HolyTrinityschrichmond
