Newsletter 25th October 2024

Friday 25th October 2024

Dear Parents and Carers                ,

It was wonderful to see so many of you on Monday to share the wonderful work the children have been doing with them. We are extremely proud of all the children’s efforts and achievements over the past half term, both academically and with all their musical, sporting and other creative passions. So much to celebrate!

Trips, visits and events

Year 4 visit to Kew

Year 4 enjoyed visiting Kew Gardens last week as part of their learning about South America and the Amazon Rainforest in Geography, Art and Science. They had to imagine that they were stranded in the Rainforest and needed to look for ways to survive by finding food, shelter and medicine. All the children had an excellent time on this immersive experience, exploring the sight and smells in the Palm House before drawing some of the exotic plants in the Princess of Wales Conservatory and of course, having lots of fun in the Children’s Garden!

Year 3 had a fabulous day at Gunnersbury

Year 3 went to Gunnersbury Park as part of their experiential learning in History.  They attended a workshop where they learnt about the Stone Age through primary and secondary sources.  The children then went into the park to be hunters and created a shelter made out of sticks and (fake) animal skin.  Some of them commented how hard life would have been for people in the Stone Age!

Message from Mrs Evans

What an incredibly busy half-term we have had! There has been so much to celebrate at Holy Trinity and it has been wonderful to begin showing families around our school who are looking for Reception places for September 2025.

We had a lovely worship this morning where we looked again at British Values and focused on ‘Democracy’. I shared with the children that democracy means: ‘We all have thoughts and everyone matters’; ‘We ask questions’; ‘We make decisions together’. I told the children about a recent news story that explained that after a 10-year campaign, music exam boards have announced they will include Sikh sacred music (Kirtan) on their syllabus. I asked the children to consider how this is an example of democracy. I then asked them to consider why Dr Harjinder Lallie, who led the campaign, felt that this was so important. We talked about how this links to mutual respect and tolerance and the celebration of differences. We also talked about how significant this would be for Sikhs to feel not only proud of their sacred music but also see it recognised in an equal way to other types of music. We reflected on the message of Matthew 7:7: “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” We closed worship by reflecting on the fact that this story reminds us that we all have a voice and can bring about change. This story is also such a lovely example of all 3 of our school values: Love, Community, and Aspiration.

I hope that you all have a wonderful half-term week and we look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday 4th November.

Community events and initiatives

I am messaging on behalf of your local Chestertons branch, here in East Sheen. We are helping the charity Calling London with their winter coat drive and would appreciate your support.

Every year, Calling London collects winter coats and jackets and then distributes them to over 30 charitable organisations – helping the homeless, victims of domestic abuse, those living in poverty, the elderly, refugees and children. We’ve been collecting coats on behalf of Calling London since 2013 and now more than ever they need our help.

Between 21st October – 23rd November all of the Chestertons London branches become donation points for the public to drop off their unwanted coats and jackets. We need winter coats and jackets in both adults and children’s sizes, every single donation makes a real difference to someone’s life.

Thank you to all our children for their hard work over the last eight weeks and for all your support at school. We wish you all a very happy and hopefully restful half term.

Best wishes,  Miss Ashby.        Instagram: @HolyTrinityschrichmond
