Newsletter 9th May 2025

Friday 9th May 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

We spent time on Thursday thinking about the VE Day 80 commemoration. In our collective worship, I spoke about generations of my family who had been at the original VE Day celebrations, both as members of the armed forces in 1945 and at home in North London enjoying the street parties, thinking about our community then and now. I am sure that all of our community at Holy Trinity has similar stories to tell.

Next week we have our Year 6 SATs, where the children have a chance to show what they have learned in English and Maths. I have written to all year 6 children and their families, emphasising that SATs do not measure their kindness, creativity, sense of humour, or the way they help each other. SATs do not show how brilliantly our pupils play sport, paint, sing, dance or lead each other, nor can they capture their personality, their dreams, or the effort they put into every day. I know you will join with the rest of the community at Holy Trinity to cheer them on every step of the way.

Best wishes,

Mr George

Trips, visits and events

Kingfishers had a visit from the dentist

Our Reception children had a special visit from a local dentist who shared all about how to keep our teeth healthy and why it matters. They learned about the importance of brushing twice a day, what foods are good (and not so good) for our teeth, and how to develop courage if they were nervous about visiting the dentist. The giant toothbrush and model teeth were a big hit – everyone had a go at brushing like a pro!

Well done, Woodpeckers!

Congratulations to Woodpecker Class for winning the Mini Marathon Challenge! Your determination and team spirit were fantastic – well done to everyone who took part.

Year 6 Tennis Stars

On Thursday, four of our Year 6 pupils proudly represented the school at a tennis competition held at The Bank of England Sports Ground. There was some outstanding tennis on display, and the team showed great skill and sportsmanship throughout. Although we narrowly missed out on reaching the semi-finals, we finished in fifth place. Well done HT

Notices and requests

Sharing our Learning

We would like to welcome you into your children’s classes on Monday 19th May at pick up time to share your children’s learning with them and look at their books which they are very proud of. The exterior doors will be open between 3:20/3:30 and 4:15pm.

HT in Bloom

The Eco Team is excited to launch a new whole-school project: HT in Bloom!

Our mission is to make our school grounds even more wildlife-friendly by creating more spaces for pollinators—especially bees, who need our help due to habitat loss.

This week, Year 1 and 2 have been busy planting tiny seedlings.  One of our wonderful parents has donated some plants and her time to help children plant them.  In Year 5 and 6, we have a veg planting project underway.

How you can help:

  • Do you have any spare wildflower seeds or plants that need thinning? We’d love any donations!
  • Are you a keen gardener? We’d love your support and expertise—please get in touch if you’d like to get involved.
Celebrations!

Safeguarding

Clubs and Activities Reminder

If you have signed your child up for a before-school club, please make sure that the provider has arrived before you leave your child – they should not be left unattended at school. If you are late to a club, please ensure that children brought to the activity are handed over directly to a member of the activity staff by the parent/carer.

Water Safety

During the summer months it is likely that many pupils will be visiting the beach, riverside or swimming pools. It is essential that children are taught how to stay safe in and near water. It would be really helpful to talk through with your child how they can do this.

Stop and think – spot the dangers

  • It can be very cold
  • There may be hidden currents
  • It can be difficult to get out (steep slippery banks)
  • It can be deep
  • There may be hidden rubbish, e.g. shopping trolleys, broken glass
  • There may be no lifeguards there
  • It is difficult to estimate depth
  • It may be polluted and could make you ill.

Stay together

  • It is always better to go to the water with a friend or family member
  • Children should always go near water with an adult

Float

  • If you fall into the water unexpectedly, float until you can control your breathing.
  • Then call for help or swim to safety.

Call 999

  • You may be able to help yourself and others if you know what to do in an emergency.
  • If you see someone in difficulty, tell somebody, preferably a Lifeguard if there is one nearby, or go

to the nearest telephone, dial 999, ask for the Fire Service at inland water sites and the Coastguard

at the beach.
