Newsletter 14th March 2024

Dear Parents and Carers 14/03/2024

Year 4 at the Royal Albert Hall

On Tuesday the Year 4s had the amazing opportunity to sing in a mega choir with over 2000 children in the iconic Royal Albert Hall. We united with 62 schools in the Prom Praise 4 Schools production of King David: A Hero’s Journey Begins Long Before Anyone Knows Their Name.  A huge well done to Year 4 for all of their hard work with learning the songs and for their performance on the day – it was outstanding!

Ducklings in Reception

We have all been watching the duckling eggs throughout the week, waiting for them to hatch. We had one early arrival who is desperately wanting some company – here is the duckling being comforted by Mr Thomson.

Year 6 at Holly Lodge

Year 6 had a fabulous trip to Holly Lodge in Richmond Park on Tuesday afternoon, despite the rain! They took part in 10 different safety scenarios each lead by key members of our community such as the MET police, the fire brigade, paramedics and TfL, and were taught a variety of skills to deal with situations that could happen in real life. This gave them the opportunity to recognise and deal with danger in realistic ways which they will hopefully remember should they need to cope with a similar situation in real life. They worked extremely well together in their teams and the staff praised them for their high scores.

Year 5 at High Ashurst

Year 5 (and their teachers) had a fantastic first day at High Ashurst where they were challenged with the high ropes course. Lots of children pushed themselves (and others in ‘bum wars’) at the top of a 10-metre pole. They also completed the leap of faith challenge where they had to jump from a platform onto a trapeze. Last night we went on an atmospheric night walk before finishing with songs around the campfire. Today they will be putting their fire building and shelter building skills to the test in their woodland skills session.

Junior Travel Ambassadors

On Tuesday, the Year 5 members of our JLT represented the school at the Junior Travel Ambassador (JTA) seminar at Hampton Prep School. The JTA scheme (soon to be rebranded as TfL Explorers Ambassadors) encourages safer, active and independent travel within the school community. Our four ambassadors (James, Sophia, Leila and Casper) listened to a short presentation from a member of Transport for London before taking part in a number of activities aimed at promoting safer and cleaner travel. The activities included designing a safety poster, safe scootering, changing a punctured bicycle inner-tube and a learning walk in a local park. All four children were wonderful representatives for our school and will now use their knowledge to help promote more active travel and road safety in their role on the Junior Leadership Team.

Refill Rescue

Our Eco Refill Rescue team will open shop for refills on Friday, 22nd March from 3.30 – 3.45 pm. Please bring along your plastic/ glass bottles to be refilled with either hand wash, bodywash, laundry liquid or washing-up liquid. Those who have used the products will vouch for the quality we offer. We will also hold a cake sale adjacent to the Refill Shop.  Please come and look at what we do, and help us make a difference!

Easter Egg Competition – 25th March

The annual blown egg competition will take place as usual this year. Please bring in any entries first thing on Monday 25th March ready for judging. The theme that has been suggested this year for the competition is, ‘What will Mrs Bateman do in her retirement?’ This will be judged by our Chairs of Governors. Good luck!

Miss Jobbins (Bumblebee Class Year 2) will be running the London Marathon in April 2024 for the Princess Alice Hospice. She is hoping to raise over £2750 (or more!) for an outstanding charity which supported her and her family during an incredibly difficult time. ‘Their care, dedication and support was unlike anything we had ever received’ she quoted.
