Newsletter 14th March 2025

Friday 14th March 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week Sue from Holy Trinity Church shared the story of Zacchaeus the tax collector, who saw the error of his ways when he met and was befriended by Jesus and learned to become a more benevolent and generous character. I particularly like this story because it shows that we are all learners, and all looking to become stronger through our learning. In my collective worship, I explored the theme of homelessness, and how our love of community is so important to us – of course, this also meant we could sing Streets of London, with many thanks to Mr Thomson who also played guitar for us. Today has been our amazing History Day which gives such a wide opportunity for our children to look at the history of our country in different times – plus another chance to dress up for those who wanted to!

Have a super weekend, and we look forward to seeing you again on Monday.

Best wishes,

Mr George

Trips, visits and events

Badgers/Foxes explore at Forest School

Badger Class had a fantastic day on Monday at forest school. They spent the morning making wooden snakes from elder wood, playing on the ropes and building their own mud kitchen.

Eco poster competition winners

We were so impressed by the entries to our ECO poster competition.  Well done to all who entered, you showed aspiration, love and community through your careful artwork and thoughtful messages about our environment.  Here are the winning posters:

1st prize – Joseph, Fallow Class

Highly commended – Leon (Roe Class), Siddarth (Swan Class), Shin (Butterfly Class).

HT enjoy History day!

The children have had a wonderful day immersed in history. They started off with an assembly, sharing and learning about different periods in history. We looked at lots of different artefacts and matched them to different historical periods. Many of the children came dressed according to the time period in history they were studying and they looked fabulous! Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed visiting the St Leonard’s air raid shelter as part of their immersion in WWII and Year 3 had a visitor from the Stuart period.

Thursday 27th March – Year 2 scooter training

On Thursday 27th March, the Year 2 children will take part in a free National scooter training scheme to help them understand the importance of road safety. The training takes place in the school playground. If your child has a scooter and/or helmet, please make sure they bring it into school on this day. If they don’t have a scooter, they can borrow one from a friend as the training takes place in small groups. If you are happy for your child to lend their scooter to a friend who does not have one, please let a member of staff know.

Notices and requests

International Food Festival 25th March

We are holding our International Food Festival again during the morning of 25th March! Last year’s festival was such an incredible success and a highlight of the Spring term; this is a chance to really celebrate our cultural richness and share the different cuisines linked to our heritages with our community.

Can your child please bring in a plate of bite-sized nibbles to share with our community? It may be tasters of a family favourite (sweet or savoury) from England or some traditional food linked to your culture or heritage. The children just loved experiencing different foods from around the world and enjoying dishes that were community favourites. Please label your plate of food with the ingredients, (and vegetarian/vegan/gluten/dairy) for our children with allergies and intolerances. Please keep an eye out for sign-up sheets through your class reps. We are looking for a few volunteers to support our HT Friends throughout the morning. Please email me or let your parent rep know if you would like to join us.

Any leftovers we will be sharing with you all outside the main gates at pick up time!

Annual Easter Egg competition – 31st March

On the last Monday of term we will be holding our annual blown Easter egg competition! The challenge, if you would like to take part, is to decorate a blown egg/eggs in any way you choose. Entries to be brought in on Monday 31st March at the start of the day.

Celebrations!
