Holy Trinity hosted its annual British History Day, a vibrant event designed to immerse children in our nation’s past through a chronological journey. Mr. Auton launched the day with an engaging assembly that highlighted the importance of chronology. Students were challenged to identify historical eras through unique soundscapes and to link key facts to the four ‘golden thread’ themes that underpin our history curriculum at Holy Trinity: Monarchy, Empires/Dynasties/Migration, Local Area, and Key People. Throughout the day, each year group explored a specific era: Year 1 focused on the Battle of Hastings and the Normans, Year 2 delved into Medieval Times, Year 3 studied the Tudors, Year 4 the Stuarts, Year 5 the Victorians, and Year 6 concluded the timeline with World War II. Our Reception children had a day focusing on Kings and Queens.
The school was filled with “fabulous” costumes as many children dressed for their respective periods, participating in hands-on workshops that ranged from building castles and studying famous monarchs to learning about the English Civil War. A particular highlight for Year 6 was their evocative visit to the St. Leonard’s air raid shelter, where they gained a deeper understanding of the Blitz. By matching artifacts to their origins and engaging in era-specific activities, the children enjoyed a truly memorable and educational experience.
